Design
P.I. Engineering's control room keyboards offer a completely familiar user interface with instant access to mission critical functions at the touch of a button. By surrounding the traditional ANSI keyboard layout with clearly labeled "Extra" keys, the limits of the typical 104 key keyboard are removed. Rather than requiring an operator to memorise complex short-cut key combinations, these commands are instantly available on a single clearly labeled button.
Critical system control requires robust, highly reliable and comfortable keyboards and keypads. Our mission critical keyboards and made with the highest quality switches, aluminium extruded enclosures, our own key caps, all designed, manufactured and assembled in our own factory located in Williamston Michigan, USA.
Additional Second Function Layer
Access a second programmable function for any key by using the FN key to shift to the function layer. Alternate keys or macros may be programmed on this layer.
Security
Security issues are minimal as the keyboard is simply a keyboard, and can not be "hacked" or reprogrammed after installation. Physical access to the keyboard, a password and special configuration software are required to make any changes to the device. And the interface is still only HID keyboard so it can not inject any harmful code or upload any other program.
Easy to set up, hard to change (if needed)
P.I. Engineering keyboards and control surfaces a very reliable, yet completely flexible for the initial setup or any future upgrades or system changes. The keys may be relabelled and underlying keystrokes can be reprogrammed to suit any need or future change.
While it is possible for the system implementers to change the keyboard, there are embedded safety and security features built into the device to prevent inadvertent or malicious changes by the user.
